With quantitative metathesis of ῆᾰ (êa) to έᾱ (éā), from Proto-Hellenic *stā́wər, from Proto-Indo-European *stéh₂-wr̥, from *steh₂- (to stand). Compare πῖᾰρ (pîar), οὖθᾰρ (oûthar).[1]
