  1. (away) from (a general point of departure to state the direction of the movement, without implying that the subject was inside a space such as a building or a geographical place, e.g., "I walk away from the table", Я відходжу від столу; by contrast, "I come from Ukraine", Я родом з України. Thus, examples of use can be "walk away from піти від, escape/run away from втікати від, move away from відійти від")
  2. from (in the fixed expression "to be far from", далеко від)
  3. from (in the fixed expression "stay away from... !" тримайся подалі від...!)
  4. from/between (in the fixed expression "from... to...", without implying change or movement, e.g. "The temperature is between 2 to 3°C", Температура коливається від двох до трьох градусів за Цельсієм. By contrast, "I move from L'viv to Kiev" Переїжджаю зі Львова до Києва)
  5. of, out of (to express cause, e.g., "He died of cancer", Він помер від раку; "I fainted out of fear", Я знепритомнів від страху. But it doesn't translate "Was/were due to", сталася через, and "because", тому що)
