Etymology

Formally a diminutive form of an earlier пря́пор (prjápor) (obsolete) +‎ -ец (-ec) from Proto-Slavic *perporьcь. Akin to Serbo-Croatian пра̀порац, Slovene práporec, Czech prapořec (dated) from Proto-Slavic *porporьcь, which gave dialectal Bulgarian пра́порец (práporec).
