From the noun слух (slux, hearing), from Proto-Slavic *sluxъ (hearing), originally meaning “what is spoken, what can be heard, rumour”, from *slūti (to be named, to talk over, to follow news), influenced by forms such as *směxъ (laughter), from *směj- (to laugh), *smě- (to laugh) and *spěxъ (hurry), from *spěti (to hurry).
