Ultimately from a Turkic language. From Old East Slavic хозя (xozja), Chuvash хуҫа (huś̬a). Cognates include Persian خواجه (xâje), Turkish hoca, Slavic: Russian хозя́ин (xozjáin), Belarusian хадзя́ін (xadzjáin).
