Etymology edit

From Proto-Semitic *kanap-. Compare Arabic كَنَف (kanaf) and Hebrew כָּנָף (kānāp̄). The sense of "pterygium" is a semantic loan from Ancient Greek πτερύγιον (pterúgion).
