Etymology 1Edit

From Proto-Tai *χiːŋᴬ (ginger), from Old Chinese (OC *kaŋ, “ginger”). Cognate with Lao ຂີງ (khīng), Shan ၶိင် (khǐng), Ahom 𑜁𑜢𑜂𑜫 (khing), Zhuang hing. There are also แกลง (glɛɛng) and แครง (krɛɛng) from the same Old Chinese that modify ขิง itself.
