From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *tu¹ (“thick; blunt”), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *(t/d)ow-n (“thick”) (STEDT). Cognate with Nuosu ꄖ (du, “dense; thick”), Lolopo tu (“thick”), Jingpho dau.
