From Proto-Karen *k-hnejᴬ (two) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *ni⁴ (idem) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *g/s-ni-s (two). Cognate with S'gaw Karen ခံ (khee), Western Pwo နံၫ.
