შენება

Georgian edit

Etymology edit

From Old Georgian შჱნებაჲ (šēnebay), შენებაჲ (šenebay), most probably from შჱნი (šēni)/შენი (šeni), or related to it. There are thoughts, that root -შენ- (-šen-) comes from Iranian via Armenian, because of the Old Georgian root -შჱნ- (-šēn-), where (ē) represents long (e), that is also attested in Greek loan words and the Old Armenian շէն (šēn), where է (ē) represents the long e sound as well.
