Etymology edit

A medieval loanword of Iranian origin. Yu (2012) cites Persian پدرود (padrôd, bowl?) and Sogdian [script needed] (patrōδ) as potential sources. Also compare Khotanese phalau (flat dish; bowl), Hindi प्याला (pyālā, cup).
