- A taxonomic species within the family Amaryllidaceae – prairie onion, autumn onion, a species blooming until October on sandy or rocky soil in the inner third of North America, of narrow, flat leaves and clustered pinkish flowers with yellow in their centers and yellow-tipped stamina, rarely eaten though edible.
