From a Norman surname, from a place in Normandy (Old French for "Gomeric's hill"). Gumaric was a Germanic personal name composed of *gumô ‎(man) and *rīks ‎(ruler) (whence the modern French surnames Gomery, Gommery and Gumery).[1]
