Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! Tidying edit

Hi, would you mind not changing {{top}} to {{trans-top}} without also providing a gloss, as per your edit a few months ago to Afrikaans? Thanks! DAVilla 22:40, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks, I will do that. SPQRobin 21:00, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

hinder edit

Happy New Year! When you have a moment, could you please add Dutch translations to the entry for hinder (both verb and adjective)? Do watch out for edit conflicts, though, since I'm asking several folks for help with this. --EncycloPetey 20:12, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done. If you want Dutch translations for another entry, you may always ask it :-) SPQRobin 11:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Please leave the Latin as the lemma form, though. We do not use the present active infinitive as the lemma for Latin entries, and we do not hide the lemma form in the link. The lemma form for all Latin verb entries is the firest-person singular present active indicative (first principal part), just as it is in Latin dictionaries and the Latin Wiktionary. --EncycloPetey 17:09, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I didn't know that, I will now use the first-person. SPQRobin 17:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

"translate" edit

Hi, SPQRobin and thank you for your participation at the greek wiktionary. If you see other errors, don't hesitate to tell us so, as you just did :) Thank you again! - Regards, Lou 13:55, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Robin in a way to thank you regarding your contribution here, i'd copy/paste and try to correct some things i can see as french native speaker ( almost only matter of syntaxe or style, sorry i won't do it for conjugaison, cause i'm not sure at all, and lazy to check :-)) :

I did not do everything but it's a beginning.....

See you around Serpicozaure(talk) 07:39, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merci beaucoup! :-) I know most things, but I forget to apply what I know. C'est une langue difficile... SPQRobin 14:09, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

New entries edit

Please remember to use headings like "==Icelandic==" not "== Icelandic ==". Thanks! --Connel MacKenzie 06:00, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I will not use whitespaces in headings anymore. SPQRobin 13:09, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Template:Belgium edit

Pardon me, this template defaults to French, it is also used for Dutch {{Belgium|lang=nl}}. Please put it back, it was not broken. What you are doing will break entries. Robert Ullmann 15:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I didn't know that. But I really don't like a default in the case of Belgium. Maybe we can remove the default, so the lang parameter is always required (I'll check all entries). Is that a good idea? SPQRobin 15:44, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Note, for example, finching ... Belgium xxx does not mean "Wallonia".
The default is there because that is the default case, what it is and will be used for most of the time. {India} defaults to English, because that is the most common use. (Note that regional templates are expected to have a default, see {{context}}) Robert Ullmann 15:48, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
French is not the most common use for Belgium. And for example at re#Dutch (I already fixed it) the template {Belgium} was used without lang parameter, so the category appeared as Belgian French, which is not correct. Why would a regional template need a default? You can use e.g. "lang parameter required" as default. If a lang parameter is required, there won't be any errors. SPQRobin 16:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
You can't remove the default, it has to be something. If you take it out of the template, it will be English. Is that an improvement? Please just put it back. If you want a template that labels as "Wallonia", then copy it. Robert Ullmann 16:11, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think you don't understand me, I mean this: {{context {{{sub|}}}|label={{#if:{{{lang|}}}|Belgium|"lang" and "regcat" parameters required}}|regcat={{{regcat}}}|lang={{{lang}}} |sub={{{sub|}}}|skey={{{skey|}}}|{{{1|}}}|{{{2|}}}|{{{3|}}}|{{{4|}}}|{{{5|}}}|{{{6|}}}|{{{7|}}}|{{{8|}}}|{{{9|}}}}}. And btw, there is Category:Belgian Dutch which should be in Category:Flemish Dutch. With the current template (i.e. regcat which is always "Belgian") is always goes to Category:Belgian Dutch. halvarine edit

I have just added this word, but am not now sure if it is English or Dutch. Any ideas? SemperBlotto 11:11, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

According to Van Dale it exists in Dutch, but I don't know wheter it exists in English. I guess so, because English seems to borrow all region-specific words from other languages. Though, I didn't find it in any online English dictionary. SPQRobin 15:16, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kwijt edit

--Ooswesthoesbes 05:44, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
SPQRobin 10:49, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
[1] --Ooswesthoesbes 17:02, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
SPQRobin 18:40, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
--Ooswesthoesbes 06:15, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

SPQRobin 20:32, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay, thank you man :) ik zie veel Bretonse edits, kom je er vandaan? :) bye Mallerd 22:52, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

:-) SPQRobin 11:12, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh I see, hoe komt het dat je er in geïntresseerd bent geraakt? Mallerd 23:46, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ciao Mallerd 09:22, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

lang: templates edit

These are created if and only if the basic template has the language name wikilinked. {{is}} does not: Template:is, so {{lang:is}} is not needed and should not exist. Robert Ullmann 17:42, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh, now I understand. Though, this way it's a bit more difficult to use them. Wouldn't it be better to create one template with {{#switch:{{{1}}} with a list of all codes and language names (unlinked)? SPQRobin 18:22, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jouw bewerking edit

[2]: waarom? {{en-adj}} heeft ook zo’n categorie. H. (talk) 12:43, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Script boxes on your userpage edit

Hi there SPQRobin. The script boxes that you have on your userpage are messed up. Do you know how to fix them? If you don't, I'm sure I could get someone to fix them for you :) Razorflame 10:53, 29 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and thanks for noting it (haven't looked at my user page in some time). Well, the problem is that Template:User lang (and Template:User lang-2 etc.) loads a template according to the first parameter (i.e. Template:Latn & Template:Grek) and those template require parameters themselves. I could fix it by changing Template:User lang so that I can use an optional parameter, but it is protected... SPQRobin 11:10, 29 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
