• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
• Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
• If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
• The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
• A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.

Notes on your recent entries

Thank you for your continuing work. I have a couple of important notes. Firstly, for verbs that include a noun, like -piga simu, please do not use the conjugation template — it will give incorrect forms! Instead, just have it point to the head verb, as I did there. Secondly, you have been writing "plural noun form" when it should have been "noun plural form", which is an easy mistake to make, but that's why you might've wondered why there seemed to be so few plurals. In the future, you can just copy existing entries' formatting to make it easier. With nouns, though, we can create the plurals quite quickly with accelerated green links. • A note about entries like -maanisha: just putting that it's a causative is not very helpful, because 1) it's not derived from a verb, so the template's output is inaccurate and 2) it has a specific meaning and translation into English that is not perfectly predictable, and needs to be explicitly given. See the changes I've made there. For any verbal derived form, it's best if we can give specific meanings or translations where they exist (not usually possible for applicatives, maybe, but a good idea for ones like the causatives). —Μετάknowledge^{discuss/deeds} 01:55, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello! I moved Category:Swahili basic terms to Category:Swahili basic words. Also, please make sure to fill categories by adding category names at the bottom of the entry you want in the category, rather than manually adding the terms into the category page. I don't think that a category is a good idea for such a collection in general, though. It's probably a lot less time-consuming and more useful to make an Appendix:Swahili basic vocabulary, where you could also group words by part of speech, context of use (words for basic conversation, words for animals, etc). —Μετάknowledge^{discuss/deeds} 00:54, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Swahili -kilio

You added Swahili kilio, including a verb. While the noun definitely exists, I don't think there's such a verb. The noun is probably ki + -lia (to cry). Verbs don't usually end in "o". Can you please check? tbm (talk) 07:24, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
