What is your point if I might ask? Is not the point of having a Wiktionary which users can edit to have a larger number of articles?

It says in your profile that you can speak Esperanto, if so you should know that ĥanejo would be derived from ĥano. Jen ligilo por la uzo de la vorto ĥanejo: https://books.google.no/books?id=2nwaBwAAQBAJ&pg=PA57&dq=%C4%A5anejo&hl=no&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=%C4%A5anejo&f=false Vikungen (talk) 16:54, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but just because a word could exist does not mean it does exist. Esperanto can form lots of words with prefixes and suffixes that nobody has ever used, and if that is the case, they do not belong on Wiktionary, even if they could be used. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 16:47, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

As Esperanto is a relatively small language, it would be hard to find accounted uses of lesser used words like ĥanejo outside of dictionaries. There are also no other words that contest the validity of ĥanejo, thus either we need to go with the dictionaries only listing of the word for khanate, or we would have to live without a Wiktionary entry for the Esperanto word for khanate, which would be a shame and a loss. This is the price we must pay to ensure that someone doesn't make up a word on the spot and then get it included. Even dictionaries make things up and make mistakes. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 16:55, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Formatting suggestions edit

Hi Vikungen. Thanks for contributing these new entries to Wiktionary—ĥano and ĥalifo in particular are good entries. There are a couple of things you should know about formatting entries on Wiktionary, though. First, in the {{etyl}} template, the second language code should be the language of the entry. So, for instance, the template at ĥano should say {{etyl|trk|eo}}, not {{etyl|trk|en}}. The latter would be used for the etymology of an English word, not an Esperanto word.

Second, the IPA symbol ˈ is a stress mark—it precedes the stressed syllable in a word. If you want a regular syllable break, use a period ( . ) instead.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! —Mr. Granger (talkcontribs) 16:23, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! edit

Welcome!

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
  • A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
  • If you have anything to ask about or suggest, we have several discussion rooms. Feel free to ask any other editors in person if you have any problems or question, by posting a message on their talk page.

You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage. This shows which languages you know, so other editors know which languages you'll be working on, and what they can ask you for help with.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.

Again, welcome! —Mr. Granger (talkcontribs) 16:28, 20 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
