DutchEdit

PronunciationEdit

Etymology 1Edit

From Middle Dutch beseffen, from Old Dutch *biseffen, from bi- +‎ *seffen. The latter part is from Proto-Germanic *sabjaną.

VerbEdit

beseffen

  1. (transitive) to realize
Usage notesEdit

Beseffen is not reflexive, but occasionally it is wrongly used reflexively: zich beseffen. This is probably a contamination of zich realiseren ‎(to realize), with the same meaning, but reflexive.
