  1. Kecamatan is used for Dutch East Indies administrative division in Java of Dutch onderdistrict (literally subdistrict), which was replaced by Japanese (son) during Japanese occupation.
  2. Because of special status, kecamatan is replaced by distrik in Papua and West Papua and kapanewon and kemantren in Yogyakarta.
