From Proto-Finnic *orja (slave, servant), from Proto-Finno-Permic *orja, probably borrowed from Proto-Indo-Iranian *áryas (Aryan).[1] Cognates include Estonian ori, Erzya уре (uŕe) and Udmurt вар (var).
