phần tử
Vietnamese
editEtymology
editSino-Vietnamese word from 分子, composed of 分 (“portion”) and 子 (“child; small thing”), from Japanese 分子 (bunshi), from Middle Chinese 分子 (bjunH tsiX, “part; division; component; member”, literally “portion child”).
- 燕周之分子也 [Vietnamese Literary Sinitic, trad.]
- From: Commentary of Guliang, circa 206 BCE– 9 CE
- Yan is a part of Zhou
The tone is slightly irregular, and a regular form would be *phận tử. For the tone difference between phần tử and phân tử, see phần. Doublet of phân tử. Cognate with Mandarin 分子 (fènzǐ) and Cantonese 分子 (fan6 zi2).
