From Middle Irish roinded, rannaid (parts, separates; distributes, apportions) (compare Irish and Scottish Gaelic roinn), from Old Irish rannaid, a verbalization of rann (compare Irish and Scottish Gaelic rann), from Proto-Celtic *ɸrasnā (compare Welsh rhan (part)).
