Etymology

Has been analyzed to be from vejtare, from vegjëtare, from vegjë, meaning loom, translated as "weavers of fate". Alternatively a derivative of vis, cognate to Lithuanian vietà (“place”).

(mythology) mythological creature imagined as a colorful serpent with golden horns that would lay gold and bring good fortune wherever it stepped; animal imagined as a short and thick serpent, beautiful and without venom, that was thought to live in wall holes and would protect and bring good fortune to homes
2. (mythology) one of the three fates that would come to a newborns cradle on the third day of their life to assign their fate
3. (archaic) fate, fortune, luck, chance
4. good and skilled woman that is a prefect housewife at home; mother of many children
5. healthy and comely cow, that gives a lot of milk
6. (obsolete) victory
7. garland, crown of victory
