Of imitative origin, from the onomatopoeia кря-кря (krja-krja) +‎ -кам (-kam).

  1. (intransitive) to cackle, to shriek, to croak (of birds)
  2. (intransitive, figurative) to honk, to gabble (to utter inarticulate sounds)
  3. (reflexive with си, figurative) to hem and haw, to mumble nonchalantly (to talk passionately without actually expressing anything sensible)
