Inherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ḤLKWN-šn'), [Book Pahlavi needed] (bhššn' /⁠baxšišn⁠/, bestowal, distribution). By surface analysis, بخش (baxš) +‎ ـش (-eš). Akin to Old Armenian բաշխիշ (bašxiš), an Iranian borrowing.
