editInherited from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ḤLKWN-šn'), [Book Pahlavi needed] (bhššn' /baxšišn/, “bestowal, distribution”). By surface analysis, بخش (baxš) + ـش (-eš). Akin to Old Armenian բաշխիշ (bašxiš), an Iranian borrowing.
