ܒܪܘܢܐ
Assyrian Neo-Aramaic
editEtymology
editOriginally meant “little son”, from Aramaic בְּרוֹנָא (bərōnā), the diminuitive of בְּרָא (bərā), from Proto-Semitic *bin-; compare Arabic اِبْن (ibn), Hebrew בֵּן (ben) and Akkadian 𒁉𒉏 (bīnum). The second noun is derived from the above through baby talk or mimicking of it. Largely displaced ܐܸܒܪܵܐ (ibrā).
