Inherited from Apabhramsa थक्कइ (thakkaï),[1] from Prakrit 𑀣𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀇 (thakkaï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀲𑁆𑀣𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀢𑀺 (*sthakkati, stop, halt), with further etymology unknown.[2] Some theories:
