Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀭𑀤𑀺 (saradi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-),[1] from Sanskrit सरति (sárati), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *sárati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sárati, from Proto-Indo-European *sél-e-ti, from *sel- (to run, flow). Related to सरना (sarnā) without the -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-) extension. Cognate with Gujarati સરકવું (sarakvũ), Marathi सरकणे (sarakṇe).
