From Old Khmer ឆ្វប (chvapa), ចួប្ប (cwppa, “to meet”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ជួប (cuəp), ចួប (cuəp). Extended as Thai ประจวบ.

     This elegy of Si Prat who was set apart from his lady was discovered after the kingdom [of Ayutthaya] had fallen. The full version of his poem could not be found. We met only its initial part. Its final part was a bit lost. We pray his permission to present it to you.
