Etymology 1 edit

From Proto-Tai *C̥.wɯnᴬ (rain). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨺᩫ᩠ᨶ, Lao ຝົນ (fon), ᦚᦳᧃ (ḟun), Tai Dam ꪶꪠꪙ, Shan ၽူၼ် (phǔun) or ၾူၼ် (fǔun), Ahom 𑜇𑜤𑜃𑜫 (phun), Zhuang fwn, Nong Zhuang paen, Saek หวึ่น. Compare Sui fenl (rain), Southern Kam bienl (rain).
