Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *jaːwᴬ⁴ (Jonsson, 1991); Cognate with Northern Thai ᨿᩣ᩠ᩅ, Lao ຍາວ (nyāo), ᦍᦱᧁ (yaaw), Shan ယၢဝ်း (yáao), Tai Nüa ᥕᥣᥝᥰ (yäaw), Phake ယွ် (yaw). Compare Proto-Hlai *hnaːwʔ (long (distance)).
