Glyph origin edit
Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *ljaːɡs) : semantic 木 (“wood; wooden structure”) + phonetic 射 (OC *ɢljaːɡs, *laːɡs, *ɢljaːɡ, *laːɡ); also ideogrammic compound (會意/会意) : 木 + 射 (“archery”), as it originally referred to an early type of architecture for both the practice and the ceremony of archery: an open-space hall built on raised ground, without internal division into rooms (Wang, 1923; Yang, 1965). In bronze script, the alternative form 𫷺 (i.e. ⿸广射) can be seen.
