  If you open the page you see the deletion log which reads "01:49, 2 May 2016 Saltmarsh deleted page κερδίζω έδαφος (sum of parts)". Vox Sciurorum (talk) 09:10, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

  I did. My point is: it may have been deleted arbitrarily, i.e. either the RFD procedure wasn't used or they forgot to archive the discussion. We should give the page the benefit of the doubt. — Dentonius 09:18, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

  • It doesn't seem more SOP than its English counterpart, or than equivalent expressions in other languages (Italian guadagnare terreno, French gagner du terrain, Dutch terrein winnen, German Boden gewinnen).
  • Besides, it's said to be a φρασεολογισμός (fraseologismós) (ΦΡ), i.e. an idiom, at έδαφος and κερδίζω, and I think we should record those. 2A02:2788:A4:205:29FF:D95E:382C:FD20 23:58, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

  It's hard to have a rational discussion when you keep injecting politics into everything. Flooding the request pages as you have been doing means the discussions where people have reasonable differences of opinion get drowned out by all the noise.   The status quo favours deletionists. There's a reason why I do this. I could easily stick to my Jamaican Creole, contribute, and ignore all of this, much the same way that others here who stick to their minority languages do. There's not a soul to bother me in my corner of en.wikt. However, there will come a day when a deletionist who speaks Jamaican Creole arrives on the scene and then what? All my hard work will slowly be undone? I prefer to begin the fight now. I want to see balance on en.wikt. • Oddly enough, Greek Wiktionary has a translation section for it as a verb, but in the main entry for the noun έδαφος. Possibly an error, but it prompts me to believe that this sense is better off as a usage example for έδαφος. • Undelete, clearly. I have seen no credible reason here or in the deletion comment to assume this is more SOP in Greek than it is in English, for which we rightly have the term gain ground. It's a metaphor that extends beyond the sum of its parts, not merely a common but mostly SOP collocation (for which I usually support having usexes instead of full entries). — Mnemosientje (t · c) 16:28, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
