Keep. Has sufficient individual identity as a set phrase. Mihia (talk) 19:31, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Keep. Inclusion also justifiable as a translation hub.  --Lambiam 20:57, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
This probably has more cultural/historical than lexical importance. But for the sake of argument, our current def is not pure SoP because it doesn't include e.g. a modern film being played back on mute! Equinox 21:02, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I used to get a message when my radio link audio went down - "The sound of silence". DonnanZ (talk) 21:14, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, keep, part of the history of cinematography, as well as for reasons given above. DonnanZ (talk) 21:09, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Leaning delete; a white car doesn't really become a blue car even under blue lights. An adjective + noun usually implies that adjective is a more permanent aspect of noun. Moreover, silent movie and silent film are both in fairly common use, and silent photoplay would be attestable.--Prosfilaes (talk) 04:29, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
silent flick is also attestable in the silent movie sense.--Prosfilaes (talk) 04:46, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I would keep this, and maybe add "especially one made before the invention of the soundtrack" to the definition. SemperBlotto (talk) 08:35, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that's true, though; people were doing film with sound from the first days of film (Wikipedia says 1894 and 1900 commercially), just not well enough to make it commercially viable. On the flip side, there have been silent films made up to the modern day, and w:Brand upon the Brain! and w:The Call of Cthulhu (film) aren't any less silent films for being made in the 21st century.--Prosfilaes (talk) 09:38, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Kept Discussion has run the requisite seven days and there is a clear consensus to keep. Purplebackpack89 16:12, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
