Etymology headers

Hi! Thank you for your contributions. Some of of your recent additions to Yoruba have an L3 "Etymology N" section that contains an L4 "Etymology" section. There's no need for the L4 "Etymology" section, just put the etymology data after the "Etymology N" header like this. Happy editing! JeffDoozan (talk) 21:00, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

I noticed one other thing: If Yoruba uses the same pronunciation for each etymology, you can put a single L3 ===Pronunciation=== section before all of the etymologies, like [this]. JeffDoozan (talk) 01:48, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

It doesn't work like that because Yoruba is a tonal language, in this specific example the words are not of the Standard Yoruba variety, but they're Ìjẹ̀bú. The first word is gbòrìgbò (IPA: ɡ͡bò.ɾì.ɡ͡bò), whilst the second is gbòrígbò (IPA: ɡ͡bò.ɾí.ɡ͡bò). They have different pronunciations due to the different tones. Speedy deletion requests

Hello, please don't blank the page before adding {{d}} to a page. Also, please provide a reason for deletion. At e.g. abò I have no idea whether I should delete the page, because I don't know why you nominated it for deletion. Ultimateria (talk) 20:36, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

I apologize. The reason for deleting abò is because it does not follow the rules for Gungbè pages. Tones are not allowed in the page title. I made moved the entry to abo putting the tone of the word in the headline in lieu of the title of the page. I'm still working on cleaning the Gungbè entries to ensure they follow this rule. Etymology check

Hi Ayọǃ I wonder if you would be so kind to double check the Ewe etymology of lo which I just added? I've got the impression that the spelling of the root word as given in the source is an IPA notation. Would you happen to know what it is in regular orthography? Thanks for reaching out! I was able to find the word in an old French-Ewe dictionary (under tribu): https://archive.org/details/vocabulairedelal02rieb/page/380/mode/2up?view=theater. The dictionary writes it was hlõ which in the modern orthography is hlɔ̃ (it also means clan). Egbingíga (talk) 04:55, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

I could use your help again. A source gives the etymology of this word as Yoruba ògùmòn (“'a cultivated variety of Solanum nodiflorum”). Could you double check this? --Appolodorus1 (talk) 22:36, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out again! I just went down a small rabbit hole and yes, it is ògùmọ̀ which is a cultivated type of òdú which is solanum nodiflorum. I found it here: https://archive.org/details/dictionaryofmode0000abra/page/450/mode/2up. The orthography used in this dictionary is outdated, but the information is priceless.
