From Malay cukai (tax), from Tamil சுங்கம் (cuṅkam). Displaced Dutch accijnzen, accijns (excise) by Komisi Bahasa Indonesia as published on Kanpō/Berita Pemerintah No.38 Year III Month 3 (2604) in 1944.
