Particularly: “The best etymology for this is undoubtedly 果 (MC kwaX) (SV: quả) (cf. Japanese 菓子 "fruit + diminutive" spelled with an orthographic variant of 果). The mismatching between Chinese tone B and Vietnamese tone A is very hard to account for, however, unlike the abundant cases of correspondence between Chinese tone C and Vietnamese tone A.”
