Inherited from Old Polish strychować, from Middle High German strīchen, from Old High German strīhhan, from Proto-West Germanic *strīkan, from Proto-Germanic *strīkaną, from Proto-Indo-European *streyg- (“to rub, stroke”). Doublet of strajkować (“to strike”) and strzyc (“to shear”).
