Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀖𑀲𑀤𑀺 (ghasadi) or *𑀖𑀺𑀲𑀤𑀺 (*ghisadi), from Sanskrit *धृषति (dhṛṣati, rubs) or धृष्यते (dhṛṣyate, is rubbed) (compare घर्षति (gharṣati, rubs)), from the root घृष् (ghṛṣ), from Proto-Indo-European *gʰers- (to rub, scrape, scratch).
