Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀚𑀼𑀟𑀤𑀺 (*juḍadi, “is joined”) (whence attested 𑀚𑀼𑀟𑀺𑀅 (juḍia, “met, joined”)), from Sanskrit *युटति (yuṭati), from the root युट् (yuṭ). See there for more. Cognate with Punjabi ਜੁੜਨਾ (juṛnā) / جُڑنا (juṛnā), Sindhi جُڙڻُ / जुड़णु, Marathi जुळणे (juḷṇe).
