    Inherited from Sanskrit टङ्कति (ṭaṅkati, to tie), which is almost certainly a Sanskritisation of a later word; further etymology unknown.[1] Cognate with Sindhi ٽاڪَڻُ (ṭākaṇu), Nepali टाँक्नु (ṭā̃knu), Bengali টাঁকা (ṭãka), Odia ଟାଙ୍କିବା (ṭāṅkibā), Bhojpuri टाँकल (ṭā̃kal), Marathi टाका (ṭākā, stitch), टाचणे (ṭācṇe), Gujarati ટાંકવું (ṭā̃kvũ), ટાંચવું (ṭā̃cvũ).
