Inherited from Sanskrit बन्धति (bandhati), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰéndʰ-e-ti, from *bʰendʰ- (to tie). Cognate with Marathi बांधणे (bāndhṇe), Assamese বন্ধা (bondha), Sylheti ꠛꠣꠘ꠆ꠗꠣ (bandá), English bind.
