Etymology edit

Inherited from Old Gujarati पडिवउं (paḍivaüṃ), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀟𑀤𑀺 (paḍadi), from Sanskrit पतति (pátati, to fly, fall). Compare Marathi पडणे (paḍṇe), Hindi पड़ना (paṛnā), Nepali पर्नु (parnu), Bengali পড়া (poṛa).
