From Old Khmer ស្យង (syaṅa), ស្យង៑ (syaṅ), សិយង (siyaṅa), សីយង (sīyaṅa), សិង្យ (siṅya), សិង (siṅa), សីង (sīṅa), សិង៑ (siṅ, “to dwell; to reside; to be present; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer សិង (səng).
