Etymology

Bauer (1987) suggests that the suffix is derived from an Austro–Tai word for “head” (compare Thai หัว (hǔua), Zhuang gyaeuj, Bouyei jauc, Hlai ghwous); also compare Cantonese in 膝頭哥膝头哥 (“knee”), 鼻哥 (“nose”).
