These Portuguese verbs (pôr (to put; to place) and its derivatives antepor, compor, contrapor, decompor, opor, supor and others) are not considered a special conjugation. They are considered irregular verbs of the second conjugation, and are grouped with verbs ending in -er, like beber and aprender, instead of a “fourth conjugation”. This is due to the history of these verbs: pôr was formerly written poer, just like beber, similar to its counterpart in Spanish, poner.
