(uncountable) A dark-skinned grape variety used for red wine, developed as a hybrid (Helfensteiner × Heroldrebe) by August Herold in 1955 at the Staatliche Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt für Wein- und Obstbau Weinsberg (State Education and Research Institute for Viticulture and Pomology Weinsberg) in Württemberg, Germany.
  2. (countable and uncountable) Any wine produced from the Dornfelder grape.
  3. (countable) Any discrete quantity of Dornfelder wine.
