Etymology edit

From Middle High German süezlich, suozlich, sūzlich, from Old High German suozlīh, swuozlīh, equivalent to süß (sweet) +‎ -lich. Cognate with Dutch zoetelijk (mawkish; sentimental), Middle English swetly, sweetly (pleasant; lovely, adj).
