Possibly related to 間 (OC *kreːn, *kreːns, “space, gap”) (Wang, 1982).
Outside of Chinese, compare Proto-Kuki-Chin *kak (“to crack; to rend; to split”), Jingpho [script needed] (kaʔ³¹, “to crack”) (Sagart, 2017).
