    Borrowed from Classical Persian اِشَارَه (išāra), borrowed from Arabic إِشَارَة (ʔišāra), from أَشَارَ (ʔašāra).

    Sense 8 is a semantic loan from Punjabi اِشَارَہ (īśārah, sign; indicator).
