A سرخ (surx) pomegranate.

Etymology edit

From earlier سهر (suhr) (cf. سهراب (suhrāb, literally a person who has red face)), from Middle Persian [script needed] (swhr /suhr/, red), from Manichaean Middle Persian 𐫘𐫇𐫍𐫡 (swhr /suhr/), from Old Persian 𐎰𐎧𐎼 (θ-x-r /θuxra/, bright), from Proto-Iranian *cuxráh from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćukrás. Compare Sanskrit शुक्र (śukra, bright, resplendent), Parthian 𐫘𐫇𐫟𐫡 (swxr /suxr/, red), Ossetian сырх (syrx, red) and Avestan 𐬯𐬎𐬑𐬭𐬀 (suxra).
